A May Day Reflection on the Rights of Women Workers

How many of us are aware that May Day, International Workers’ Day or Labour Day, however we call it, and whenever we commemorate it, had its origins in workers’ demands for an eight hour working day? Yet, even though the commemorations have been going on for over a hundred years, today we are witness to the fact that women, half of the world’s population, routinely continue to work more than eight hours a day.
